Little Karlkurlas Playgroup
At St Joseph’s Primary School Boulder, we are proud to walk alongside families through Little Karlkurlas, our AFaFE playgroup grounded in culture, connection, and community.
The Karlkurla (silky pear) is an important local symbol, representing strength, resilience, growth, and a deep connection to land and community. It reflects our shared hope for children and families to grow strong in identity, belonging, and spirit.
At Little Karlkurlas, we recognise that learning happens naturally through relationships, play, and time spent on Country, which is why children are encouraged to explore, create, and follow their interests, supported by facilitators who guide and nurture their development. Through storytelling, music, art, and outdoor play, children build confidence, language, and social skills in ways that are meaningful and engaging.
First Nations perspectives are woven into everyday experiences to create opportunities for children and families to share, listen, and learn together, while indigenous resources, natural materials, and cultural practices are thoughtfully incorporated to inspire curiosity, storytelling, and a deeper connection to culture. These experiences support children to develop a strong sense of identity and belonging.
Little Karlkurlas also connects with the wider Kalgoorlie-Boulder community through pop-up play sessions in local parks and community spaces, providing welcoming, fun and familiar environments where families can come together to connect, yarn, and share in the joy of learning through play. These sessions are open to all families.
We warmly invite you to join Little Karlkurlas, either at St Joseph’s Primary School Boulder or out in the community, and be part of a program that values culture, connection, and growing together. We hope to see you there!
